Jeep falls off Tagaytay cliff; 9 dead

Nine people died when a jeep fell off a 300-meter cliff
on the Talisay-Tagaytay Road at 1:45 p.m. Monday afternoon.

One of the dead was identified as Florencia Dimillio. Her body was
retrieved from the wreck of the jeep at around 8 a.m., said Supt.
William Sagun, Tagaytay police chief.

Investigators said the jeep, driven by Bonifacio Ortilla, lost its
brakes and fell off the cliff in Ligaya  Drive, Barangay Sungay in
Tagaytay City.

Police said 13 other passengers of the jeep were wounded and brought to the Ospital ng Tagaytay.

Those who died on arrival at the hospital were Fidel Arsiado,
Christopher Nervaez, Margarita Tizon, Geraldo Dimayuga, Imelda Tizon
and Rosita Dimayuga. Two others, Eufrocina Malabanan and Joy de Jesus,
died later in the hospital.

Police rescue operations were called off at 6:30 p.m Monday due to risks of landslides at the site.
